Caldina (カルディナ,   Karudina?) is a dancer who works for Zagato in the first part of Magic Knight Rayearth until Fuu defeats her.

Appearance[]

Caldina is a swarthy woman with blue eyes, and long pink hair that she keeps pulled back into a high ponytail. Her outfit consists of a black midriff-bearing turtleneck with gold plating beneath, a red cape, red-jeweled earrings and gloves, and skin-tight leggings.

Personality[]

In the anime, she has great affection for Ascot, whom she treats as a naïve younger brother, and she joins him in deserting Zagato.

Caldina also takes great pride in her skills as an entertainer and assassin. At first, her interests were shown as being purely mercenary, as Zagato was paying her to kill the Magic Knights. However, upon seeing the bonds Fuu had built with Hikaru and Umi, Caldina admits to having been more affected by that than Zagato, whose motives she couldn't understand.

History[]

Caldina was originally from Chizeta, though she emigrated to Cephiro at some point. She became an entertainer and assassin and was ultimately recruited by Zagato. After Ascot's desertion, Caldina was sent after the Knights, only for her to be defeated by Fuu. Touched by Fuu's desire to protect her friends, Caldina decided to desert Zagato as well.

During the Knights' return to Cephiro, Caldina apologizes to the Knights for her previous actions. She also acts as a confidante to Ascot and is implied to have started a relationship with Lafarga.

Sega Saturn game[]

When Inouva is about to kill Ascot for his failures, Caldina intervenes, saying that she'll help them deal with Ascot after she defeats the Magic Knights.

In the Ice Village of Rosen, Caldina attempts to hypnotize the villagers to go to the volcano and destroy the shrine of the Rune God Rayearth. Her attempts are partially foiled by Ferio, whose flute-playing interfered with her hypnotic dancing. Caldina later confronts him and the Knights in an underground cave and is defeated.

When Zagato discovers that Ascot has defected, Caldina covers for him, saying that he must be spying on the Knights. With Alcyone's help, Caldina then confronts them on the bridge at Lakatack Falls, destroying the bridge and sending them plummeting into a secret path.

Once the Knights reach the end of the path, Caldina exposes Ascot's ruse and pleads with him to attack the Knights. Ascot refuses, and Caldina attacks the Knights, only for Ascot to sacrifice himself to defend them. Aggrieved, Caldina attacks the Knights again, only to be defeated. Hikaru tries to get Caldina to join them, but just as it looks like Caldina is considering it, she is killed by Inouva.

Abilities[]

In addition to her dancing skills, Caldina is an accomplished illusionist and hypnotist. It's also been shown that Caldina is incredibly good at card games and other games of chance. Caldina hypnotizes people by making the red jewels on her gloves, earrings, and shoes flash and send out bell sounds. In the anime, she is also shown to be skilled in combat with a pair of knives, which she uses to fight monsters in the second season.
