Lafarga (ラファーガ Rafāga) is the Captain of the Inner Guard, and is charged with protecting the Pillar. While he possesses no magical ability, he is a devastatingly powerful swordsman.
Appearance[]
He is a tall man with light blond hair in a long ponytail. In the anime his eyes are blue, although in concept art and color illustrations for the manga, they appear to be purple. He wears blue and gray armor and has two small piercings in his left ear and a single, larger earring on the right.
While he is being controlled by Zagato, blue markings are visible on his face, above and below his eyes. The markings do not appear after the spell is broken.
History[]
He was assigned to protect Princess Emeraude sometime after Lantis left Cephiro. Although Cephiro at the time was mostly peaceful, he kept himself busy slaying the occasional monsters that would appear. When Zagato abducted Princess Emeraude, Lafarga confronted Zagato and tried to fight him but was defeated. Zagato then brainwashed him into trying to kill the Magic Knights as a last-ditch effort to stop them before they challenged him personally.
In the anime, he is introduced at the end of Episode 15, after Inouva fails to stop the Magic Knights at the shrine of Windam. He first encounters the Magic Knights in the next episode and fights against Hikaru. Because he fights only with his sword, Hikaru insists on confronting him in hand-to-hand combat, without using her own magic. During the battle, Hikaru mentions Princess Emeraude, and Lafarga, who is acting under the control of Zagato's spell, experiences a flashback to his defeat by Zagato. His memories begin to return, but he continues attacking Hikaru in confusion until he attempts to grab her sword, which bursts into flames as soon as he touches it. He then returns to his senses with no memory of having just attacked the Magic Knights.
He is a very strong opponent, despite not being a magic user, but the girls managed to bring him to his senses. He goes against Zagato roughly at the same time Hikaru must meet Rayearth, and she in fact manages to summon her Mashin while trying to help Lafarga fight Zagato.
In the manga, he fights against the Magic Knights during Hikaru's revival of Rayearth, instead of facing them in a separate encounter on their way from the sky shrine to the volcano. The battle ends similarly, with Zagato's spell being broken and Lafarga recovering control of his own mind.
In the second part of the story, he is reintroduced along with Caldina and Ascot, now living in the castle with the rest of the surviving people of Cephiro. He is also romantically involved with Caldina.
