Lantis

Lantis is a tall, well-built, and handsome man with short black hair and blue eyes. Hikaru and others have noted Lantis's resemblance to his older brother, Zagato, to the point that in the anime's second season, Alcyone even mistakes Lantis for Zagato.

Lantis wears black wrought armor with a wide light blue mantle hanging loose from the shoulders for his whole length. Two black pieces of cloth, pinned under a white belt, frame both his waist sides until the ankles. His undergarments are a simple pair of black pants and a high-collared, long-sleeved shirt of the same color. He also wears a light golden ring around his head, and pale blue jewels are set in decorative patterns all along the shoulders and chest of his armor. He also has matching protectors for both his lower legs and arms.

Personality[]

Lantis is a serious and stoic man, as well as someone of few words, and he is described by Mokona as having "the strongest heart of all the people of Cephiro." Initially, Lantis was regarded with suspicion and fear, particularly from Lafarga, due to his reclusive nature and the timing of his return, but it was ultimately revealed that he did not want Zagato and Princess Emeraude's tragic story to repeat itself.

Lantis also shows a great capacity for compassion, stating that he does not blame Hikaru or the other Magic Knights for the death of his brother, blaming instead the Pillar system.

History[]

16-9

Little is known about Lantis's life prior to the series, aside from him having studied magic along with Zagato under Master Mage Clef, and in the anime, that his mother's deathbed gift to him was a mirror pendant that possessed strong magical powers, hinting that she might have been a magician herself. It is also possible that Lantis and Zagato were of noble or royal blood, given that they were able to receive a prestigious magical education from the supreme sorcerer of Cephiro.

When Lantis grew to manhood, he was the best swordsman in Cephiro, as well as a magician on par with Zagato and Clef, the latter of whom even once commented that Lantis could surpass even him in terms of magical strength and skill. Lantis was then appointed to be the personal bodyguard of Princess Emeraude.

Through his older brother's own heartfelt confession, Lantis came to be the only one besides to Clef to learn that Zagato and Emeraude had fallen in love with each other. Presumably having foreseen that this was a love doomed from the start, Lantis left Cephiro, much to everyone's surprise. When Zagato offered to go look for him, Emeraude told him to leave it be, citing that Lantis had to have had a good reason to leave.

At some point, Lantis journeyed to Autozam, and according to Geo, Lantis had stayed at Autozam for so long that he'd been offered a permanent position in Autozam's army, though he turned it down. Lantis had also befriended Eagle Vision and ultimately confided in him about his intent to end the Pillar System. Shortly after the deaths of Zagato and Emeraude, Lantis returned to Cephiro, rescuing the fairy Primera along the way.

Relationships[]

Hikaru Shidou[]

Lantis and Hikaru were disputing to the next Pillar. But Lantis ends falling in love deeply with her, ironically repeating the history of his brother falling in love with the previous pillar, Emeraude. Lantis wanted to abolish the pillar system, an idea later adopted by Hikaru.

Eagle[]

He is Lantis best friend and close companion. They met each other during their travel to other worlds, they met specifically in Autozam. Both want to abolish the pillar system and were competing to be the next pillar. Both Lantis and Eagle end falling in love with Hikaru.

Zagato[]

Lantis is Zagato's younger brother. He left Cephiro when he realized that Emeraude and Zagato were falling in love, since he predicted that this would lead to doom in that world. He has fond memories of his brother though, and they both look extremely similar.

Clef[]

Clef was the one who taught magic to Lantis and his older brother Zagato. He has a lot of respect for his mentor.
