Magic Knight Rayearth Volume 6 is the sixth volume in the Magic Knight Rayearth manga series and is book three in the second season of the manga series.

Summary[]

Volume 6 opens with Hikaru recovering in the castle, surrounded by her worried friends. She reflects on her brief meeting with Eagle, especially the sadness in his eyes. Hikaru also notices the gem on Mokona's forehead briefly glow yellow but wonders if it was just her imagination.

At Autozam, Eagle discusses with Fahren and Chizeta's leaders their motives for wanting to become Pillar and informs them that unless they're willing to devote even their very lives to Cephiro, it'll be impossible for them to become Pillar. Tatra, one of Chizeta's leaders, then asks Eagle if he is willing to risk his own life to become Pillar, to which Eagle only gives the leaders three hours to give up their invasions of Cephiro or face Autozam in battle.

At Cephiro, the Magic Knights, accompanied by Mokona, Ferio, and Ascot, search for the Road to the Pillar.

After the three hours pass, Lady Aska of Fahren and sisters Tarta and Tatra decide to call off invading Cephiro, but each decide they'll go there anyway to protect it from Eagle. In the midst of the three-way battle—which has since been joined by the Magic Knights and Lantis—Mokona opens the Road to the Pillar and transports Hikaru and Eagle to Tokyo for the final battle. During their battle, Hikaru learns that Eagle is gravely ill and that he was planning to become Pillar to put Cephiro itself (after resettling its people) into an eternal sleep along with him. Hikaru refuses to repeat the tragedy of Princess Emeraude and due to the strength of her will, is named the new Pillar by Mokona.

Hikaru tries to bring Eagle back with her, but both start disappearing, as only those who become the Pillar can return. Ultimately, Mokona is moved by the Magic Knights' unwillingness to give up in the face of seemingly impossible odds and opens the Road once again, allowing Umi and Fuu to rescue Hikaru and Eagle. As the new Pillar, Hikaru's first and only act is to abolish the Pillar system, deciding that Cephiro's happiness is best left in the hands of all its people rather than just one person. Satisfied with the result, Mokona and the Rune Gods leave for another universe.

Sometime later, the girls return to Cephiro. Hikaru and Lantis go to visit Eagle, who is now recovering from his illness. They then rejoin everyone else, including the leaders of Autozam, Fahren, and Chizeta, and discuss what Cephiro's new name should be. In a moment of breaking the fourth wall, Hikaru turns to the reader and suggests that they come up with a name.
